Peace of Mind for Parents

Peace of mind, you say? Raising healthy kids today is a challenge we all take to heart. Between choices for nutritious food and environmental toxins in plastics and cans surrounding our food, cleaning supplies and even toys, we all want to be vigilant without freaking out! We need to be P.E. teachers, physicians, nutritionists, scientists and health experts to keep up with the ongoing information to provide wellness for ourselves and our kids or grandkids.
Childhood obesity has doubled in the past ten years, the incidence of Type 2 diabetes is rising, one out of every thirteen children suffer from asthma , lack of robust immune systems result in an average of eight school days missed each year and poor nutrition means poor school performance.
What might be some simple steps to healthier living?
Get educated-
Ask me for a free copy of “Superwellness for Superkids- A Parent’s Guide” online, go to a credible web site such as www.aap.org, read labels to watch for high fructose corn syrup, trans fats, hydrogenated oils, and products with excessive sodium.
Take action-
Eat well- Healthy eating habits modeled by healthy adults. Be sure to include fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean protein for all.
Supplement wisely- GET HEALTHY NUTRIENTS IN OUR KIDS DIETS- choose only those with published scientific studies to back up their claims.
Put safe products on your children’s skin and hair.
Banish soft drinks and junk food.
Get active- support your children being involved in physical activities and join them!
Use safe, non-toxic household cleaners around your children, including kitchen and laundry products that enter their food and absorb into their skin. Go to the National Institutes of Health’s Household Products Database to look up cosmetic and household products you currently use and what ingredients are present. http://householdproducts.nlm.nih.gov/ingredients.htm
